Every year after

  • Biennial Report: $100, filed every two years. Due: January 2 every two years: even-numbered years if the LLC was formed in an even year, odd-numbered years if formed in an odd year.
  • First one: January 2 of the second calendar year after the formation year (the next year with the same odd/even parity).
  • If you're late: Late fee penalty applies to reports filed after February 1; failure to file can lead to involuntary dissolution.

State taxes that apply even to a small LLC

  • Alaska Business License: $50 — Not a tax, but a state business license is required before engaging in business (AS 43.70): $50 for 1 year or $100 for 2 years. No state franchise or minimum tax on LLCs or corporations. source

Worth knowing

  • Reports are biennial, not annual: $100 for domestic LLCs/corps, $200 for foreign, $25 for nonprofits.
  • Report year follows formation-year parity (even-year formations file in even years).
  • A separate state business license ($50/year or $100/2 years) is required to do business.
  • Foreign entities pay double the domestic biennial report fee ($200).

Registered agent

Alaska requires a registered agent. Must maintain a registered agent in Alaska; agent changes cost $25. You can serve as your own agent if you have a qualifying address; paid services usually charge a yearly fee.
